Lately, I have been watching some episodes of a sensational music/interview program fronted by musical doyen Elvis Costello. It is a great show because it melds well researched and thoughtfully written interviews with live performances by the guests and Elvis himself as well as gorgeous duets. Continue reading

lowdown
So, I watched Lowdown last night. ABC’s new drama filmed in melbourne. It’s not bad. Lacked a little something. Maybe pace. Does it have what it takes to make it? Not sure. But i do know it is worth giving it a chance. Continue reading
more comedy festival…
more micro reviews…
Tim Key – The Slutcracker
wow… comedy vs art. well designed and written show although close to the edge of reason some times. Tim kept us all engaged in his comedy and seamlessly snapped from improv to scripted elements. Plenty of use of props which was nice to see. very worthwhile for a look. sold out most nights. only a couple of days to go.
Sarah Millican – Ordinary Woman
I first saw Sarah last year in “Not Nice”. Sarah entertained us well then and she did again in “Ordinary Woman”. Sarah is laugh out loud funny and has the ability to extract a laugh out of the most simple things in life. Sarah is excellent, get to her show. Upstairs in the Supper Room at the Town Hall, she is in a much bigger room than last year which will improve you chances of getting a ticket.
Arj Barker – Let Me Do the Talking
Someone else I know saw arj and thought he was a bit ordinary too… For my thoughts check out my other comedy festival review.
comedy festival so far…
micro reviews of the shows i’ve seen so far…
rod quantock – who we should eat first
saw rod at trades hall a melbourne comedy legend. his 24th festival this year. not a great show i must say. i don’t mind people having a moral undertone to their show but if you’re part of a comedy festival then your show should be mainly funny… too much of a rant.
sammy j – ricketts lane
once again sammy j shows us why he is so well loved in the comedy scene. he breaks the mould so beautifully. great show, great songs, the improv when one of the radio mic batteries went flat was the best though. well worth a look
tripod – tripod versus the dragon
good nerdy show. the highlight was elana lane. nice to see tripod doing a show with a plot line. get into it while its still on… and buy elana’s cd.
the pajama men – the last stand to reason
my fav so far. hilarious, laugh out loud funny. brilliant skills. fast paced. if anything a little strange, but in a good way.
arj barker – let me do the talking
i’m not sure if it was just me or maybe it was because being in a room with 1400 arj fans made it lose all the intimacy. a bit flat. a good, solid show but i would have preferred more pace. the show seemed to drag a bit. the woman next to me laughed for the duration though, so if you are an arj barker fan, check it out…

Up In The Air
Went and saw Up In The Air at Nova last weekend. By the way, I suggest if you are going to Nova to pre-purchase your ticket on the interweb as the box office line can be quite tedious. Especially on a Saturday night. Continue reading
